What to do in the area:

  1. The large city of Perpignan is well worth a visit. The historic Castille in the centre is surrounded with winding and bustling streets. It offers great shopping and lovely bars and bistros.

  2. St Cyprien has one of the largest ports in the area, revel in the night life in the lovely setting. For more bars, restaurants and typical sea side shops Canet Plage or Bacares are just further along the coast. St Cyprien has a fantastic aquatic fun park, Aqualand, it can be found close to the south beach and is great fun for children of all ages. If you like playing Golf, there is a superb golf club to be found.

  3. The well know coastal resort of Collioure is about 5 miles along the coast heading towards Spain. Watch the artists at work along the streets. We have yet to meet anyone who hasn’t fallen in love with the charm of Collioure. One not to miss!

  4. Sample the products after a guided tour at the home of Dubonnet in Thuir.

  5. Walk through the beautiful gardens of Valmy Chateau, explore the forest trail and visit the animal park and birds of prey within the grounds. On your way out pop into the vine yard and Cave stock up on some local wines.

  6. Explore the ancient walled town of Villefranche de Conflent where you can walk around the ramparts and find out about the local Witchery history. Catch the ‘Little Yellow Train’ which takes you up the mountains.

  7. Go horse riding from any one of a number of excellent stable in the area.

  8. The beautiful mountain town of Ceret must be seen. Bargains and souvenirs can be found at the street markets or visit the Modern Art museum.

  9. Tour the magnificent castle at Salses, where Hannibal is reputed to have stopped with his elephants on the way to conquer Rome.

  10. Windsurf/Kitesurf from super beaches, or learn how to do so safely on the inland lakes at Lucat or more locally Villeneuve du Raho.

  11. Watch the Sardane being danced as you sip an aperitif at the pavement café’s in Perpignan

  12. See the spectacular firework displays at, St Cyprien, Argeles, Collioure or Banyuls sur Mer

  13. Buy your duty free gifts and drinks in the Spanish boarder towns of Le Perthus or Junquera.

  14. Explore the impressive gorges and caves at Villefrance du Conflent, Gorges de la Fou, Galernus and Canelettes

  15. Listen to the great works of the masters performed by world class artistes at the music festival of Prades

  16. Be intrigued by the bizarre Salvador Dali museum at Figueres and Port Llucat

  17. Be overwhelmed by the beautifully restored medieval city of Carcassonne

  18. Acquire an all-over tan on the naturist beaches of Torreilles Plage or Bocal de Tech

  19. Explore the exotic gardens at Ponteilla

  20. Go on a prehistoric voyage at the European Prehistoric Centre in Tautavel
